In this exclusive conversation, Luthra delves into how his company—though still in its formative stages—is aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative to build indigenous capabilities in small arms and ammunition.

From forging high-quality, locally produced solutions to laying the technological groundwork for the future battlefield, VTDS is positioning itself as a vital cog in India’s march toward military independence.

1. How is Vijayan Trishul Defence Solution advancing India’s defence capabilities through indigenous technology and innovation?

Vijayan Trishul Defence Solutions is focused on strengthening India’s defence sector by building indigenous manufacturing capabilities in small arms and ammunition. Though currently at a formative stage, we are setting up advanced infrastructure aligned with national priorities. Our goal is to contribute meaningfully to defence preparedness by supporting the Make in India movement and laying the groundwork for a self-sufficient production ecosystem.

2. In what areas of modern warfare or national security does VTDS specialize, and how are you addressing current defence challenges?

We specialise in the manufacturing of small arms and ammunition. Our aim is to support India’s defence and paramilitary forces by addressing critical supply needs with high-quality, locally made solutions. Through robust planning and adherence to global manufacturing practices, we intend to help bridge existing capability gaps and contribute to a stronger, more self-reliant national security framework.

3. How does VTDS ensure its solutions remain future-ready in an era defined by rapid technological evolution and cyber warfare?

VTDS is setting up its manufacturing processes with scalability and modernisation in mind. While we currently focus on the physical domain, our infrastructure is being developed to support future technological upgrades. Automation, quality control, and smart manufacturing practices are being integrated to ensure we stay aligned with evolving defence needs, even as cyber and tech-based threats grow.

4. What role do collaborations — whether with the armed forces, DRDO, or private players — play in your growth and R&D strategy?

Collaborations are central to our development strategy. We are engaging with key stakeholders including the armed forces, regulatory agencies, and private partners to align our capabilities with national goals. These partnerships ensure technical guidance, compliance, and operational relevance, helping us evolve into a capable and responsible player in India’s defence manufacturing landscape.

5. What is your vision for VTDS in the next five years, and how do you see your role in India’s journey towards defence self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat)?

In the next five years, we aim to become a trusted Indian manufacturer of small arms and ammunition. Our vision aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, where we seek to reduce reliance on imports and build domestic strength in critical defence areas. We aspire to contribute through quality manufacturing, job creation, and dependable supply chains that serve India’s long-term strategic needs.
